When design principles are applied to strategy and innovation, the success rate for innovation dramatically improves. Design Thinking is a methodology used to solve complex problems, and find desirable solutions.

A design mindset is not problem-focused, it is solution focused and action oriented towards creating a preferred future. Design Thinking draws upon logic, imagination, intuition, and systematic reasoning, to explore possibilities of what could be—and to create desired outcomes that benefit the end user (the customer).

Design Thinking transforms a situation that first presents as a problem into an opportunity. In order to construct a bridge between the actual reality and a desired future, it is extremely necessary to really understand where the customer is.

Empathy is a cognitive and affective ability of perceiving what the other person is feeling. When we talk about empathy, we are referring to the skill of sensing a reality that is not our own. Empathy drives connection between people. It´s the ability to take the perspective of another person, or recognize their perspective as their truth.

In order to practice empathy it is necessary to listen without prejudice, or at least to be aware of them so they don’t influence our understanding of the situation. Keeping in mind, that the reality of the other person is very different. Understanding deeply what someone else is going through helps build emotional triggers that motivate individuals and teams. Sharing emotional experiences helps bringing together and align colleagues and clients around a common goal.

Immersive empathy is a powerful tool we use in our work at Viveo. It enables us to understand the necessities of our clients and explore novel concepts that become the foundation of a new innovative solution.
